Good morning everyone! So after much consternation, and changing my mind over and over I have decided to dive into the newsletter pool. Today marks the beginning of the (always 2020 adjusted-weird) Michigan State Hockey season. If you have clicked through you may know me from Twitter, or if you have known me longer maybe you used to read my hockey coverage at the MSU SBN site, The Only Colors, or maybe you listen to my podcast A House Divided. No matter how you got here, I welcome you and thank you so much for your time.
I have missed writing about hockey so much over the last 4 years. I spent my previous writing time imploring the program to move on from Tom Anastos and make a change to hire Danton Cole. That change finally happened, then I finished grad school, got married, and had no time left to stay as involved in writing as I hoped. So my thoughts were kept to twitter mostly, which was fine but didn’t really make for an easy way to dive deep into my thoughts on the direction of the hockey program, scouting recruits, and interacting with followers. That brings me to this launch today.
I’ll be honest, I haven’t sat down and made a deep plan for what I want this newsletter to be. I don’t know how often I will write (I am hoping 2-3 times a week). I won’t be doing just game recaps, as those aren’t fun to write and don’t do much for the reader. I want to use my experience as a former CJHL scout, and now hockey advisor (I can answer questions about what that is in future posts) to share big picture thoughts, breakdown recruits in the pipeline and grow interest in Michigan State hockey. We all will be watching from a distance in this Covid season, so I feel like this is a great season to grow interest. I have no plans of monetizing this any time soon, this is a creative outlet, and a labor of love that makes me want to grow a community, so I would love for you to join me!
