Commitment Interview & Analysis: 2004 F Isaac Gordon
Gordon was one of a slew of commits to MSU recently
I am debuting a new series today that has been on the shelf for a while as real life has gotten in the way of volunteer writing. Michigan State has been on a heater lately, since the opening of the August 1st recruiting period. Coach Nightingale, Coach DeMichiel and Coach Towns have been able to secure 6 commitments this month and 7 total this summer.
I originally planned on clipping video clips and going very in depth on each kid but when the staff went off like this there was no way I could get all 7 posts done before the season starts up. So I plan to have video clips from each commitment during the season in periodic posts but wanted to sit down closer to the commitments of each player and share some thoughts and their own words on why they chose Michigan State. With that all said let’s five into the first player I will feature, Isaac Gordon, a Manitoba native and 2004 born forward who committed to the Spartans on August 16th.
Stats
2021-22 with the Eastman Broncos- 47 games played inc. playoffs 48G, 32A, 80pts
Neutral Zone Scouting Report
From the Manitoba Midget AAA Playoffs, March 2022
Isaac was really good again tonight. He has decent size and can carry the puck through zones. If forced to, he can go East-West to fend of defenders and maintain possession. He showed off his rocket of a shit a couple of times ringing one off the cross bar and managing to pot one goal on the night. Grade: B+
Interview with Isaac (conducted over Instagram DMs)
Jer: So one thing fans always love to know is a little bit of your recruiting path. So like how did you get in contact with MSU? Who was your primary recruiter on the staff? And what other offers id you hold?
IG: I got in contact with MSU while in Chicago (for Chicago Steel main camp). Coach DeMichiel and Nightingale were there. I held some other offers such as Michigan Tech, Augustana, Bemidji State, and Princeton.
My main contact point was DeMichiel, but was regularly in contact with all 3 coaches.
Jer: Are you still heading to Humboldt this season?
IG: No actually heading down to Chicago next week and will be with the Steel next season.
Jer: So what sold you on Michigan State? And how would you describe your game to the fans who will read this?
IG: What sold me on Michigan State was really the fresh start the program is getting and the staff behind the team. They’re committed to winning a national championship and turning their players into NHL players, exactly my goal. As well as the atmosphere and passion from the fan base.
I’d describe myself as a high compete, high IQ, 200 ft. player that loves to get in the dirty areas of the ice and battle, turning into goals.
Jer: Love it. Final one, fans are always curious obviously hockey is different with when guys come to campus. Is there a goal in your mind for you or expectation? Obviously a lot of stuff out of your control but when do you think you’ll be on campus?
IG: I want to come into MSU and be an impact player, after a solid year of production in the USHL.
I want to thank Isaac for his time and MSU fans be sure to follow Isaac on Instagram, his handle is igordie.8
